I had spent the winter months in the company of my Disco 4, and we had a lot of fun together in rain, snow, snowstorms, ice, and sunshine. It was all pleasure until one day…
The happiness was broken, in my hands, I got hold of the latest issue of one of my favorite car/culture magazines - ramp #60 - and so handy that the winter/spring edition has the theme of coolness. As always, I suck in every single word written on the pages, as there were fumes of burnt hydrocarbons or electricity buzzing in them.
(NOTE: oh, my favorite driver/writer is the amazing Kurt Molzer!!!).
Since I had by coincidence discovered the meaning of life issue some years back at the Düsseldorf airport, I was hooked. But this time it gave my flashbacks and my mind started spinning: What was the meaning of life, it must be more than a number…The ramp was not bad either; the article dedicated for Land Rover pleased my heart and mind very much too…
BUT:
I thought I had to re-discover this at the end of the winter and decided to head for D-dorf. Again!
I wasn’t sure what to expect or meet, but around in the D-city I was greeted by two famous Swedes from the same era - amazing! It had to be more than just a coincidence! Interestingly enough (perhaps) my life centered all about Saab in my childhood and teens, then later once had a band named Volvo 242 -that we came up with on short notice to fill in at a concert (it took a while to convince the arrangers that we could use this name)…the band was not as successful as the production run of the 240s though.
But this was not my final destination, it was a special place in the heart of this city I had in mind. I had to warm up from the winter and get to see some sports cars and other vintage vehicles. My eyes were marked on Harffstrasse 110 A - the old locomotive house refurbished to house some 300 vehicles - free to enter, but the exit could get very expensive if you ended up buying some of those beauties…The Classic Remise is an oasis for car lovers, just to walk around and look at a variety of beauties and odd vehicles…(and I might even have infected my daughter with the vintage germ).
I had disguised this as a bit of a family trip, with other activities, but I was clear on my mission…
On-site, it was a wonderful world that opened up, let spring and summer come back, get your hormones bouncing, and get out driving on winding roads in an open coach vehicle! That was my message bombarding my mind, it was a great pleasure looking at all the colorful cars, with fine lines and curves. And some pretty hefty price tags (what about €750.000…). Never mind, it was a very pleasant afternoon, getting ready for the spring time actions, around the corner, when my Snow White* is ending her 100-year sleep (at least it feels like that) and wakes up for life in about a months’ time…
This trip rejuvenated my thoughts and limbs, and the meaning of life, and making it meaningful was all back in place. Now getting ready for some new action and stories in the coming months!
